final
For the six-time world champion Ray Reardon it was the third participation in the final in the third attempt; He won in 1977 but lost the previous year. In the final he met his old childhood friend Cliff Wilson , who also came from Tredegar , but despite his talent had only become a professional player in the 1979/80 season. Reardon initially took a 2-0 lead, but Wilson turned the match to 2: 3 and after an equalization by Reardon took the lead 3-5. Reardon then managed to equalize again, but Wilson won the next frame again before Reardon equalized to 6: 6. Subsequently, this succeeded in winning the three frames required to win the title in a row and thus winning the Welsh professional championship for the second time.
