Hans Burmann , also Hans Burman (Hispanic form) and Hans Burmann Sánchez (born August 9, 1937 in Bad Honnef , German Empire ) is a Spanish cameraman of German origin who has been one of the most sought-after image designers in domestic cinema since 1970.
The son of the film architect Siegfried Burmann (in Spain often: Sigfrido Burmann) (1890–1980) and a Baskin came to film in 1953 and worked his way up from camera assistant to second cameraman (1960) to chief cameraman (1970) in full-length feature films.
In his early years, Burmann had mostly photographed less ambitious entertainment productions for a mass audience and, with a workload of up to half a dozen films per year, was one of the most sought-after cameramen in Iberian film. Especially the director Mario Camus engaged Burmann regularly for his productions. Burmann's excursions into the sophisticated art cinema include Camus' internationally acclaimed, melancholy-poetic time image The Beehive and Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's Cuban time, society and travel portrait Guantanamera . In addition, the German-Spaniard had also photographed several socio-political films (e.g. Die heiligen Fool , Sandino ). His camera work on the internationally much discussed films Tesis - The Snuff Film and Open Your Eyes also attracted a lot of attention .
Hans Burmann occasionally took photos for Spanish television ( Los camioneros series [1973]). In 1988 he was nominated for the Spanish Goya Film Award for Best Cinematography for his performance in The Execution . In 1992 there was a nomination for El rey pasmado and the following year another La marrana .
In 2008, the 71-year-old Hans Burmann retired into private life. His brother is the theater and film architect Wolfgang Burmann (* 1940).
