Gitano (alternatively: Gypsy ) is a Spanish drama film directed by Manuel Palacios from 2000 .

Flamenco artist Andrés Heredia comes out of prison after a few years. There he sat for the murder he is said to have committed on his gang member Romero.

His wife Lucia is now having an affair. Andrés wants to continue his career, but has to discover that the corrupt policeman Chino is pursuing him with the influential producer Manfredi in order to drag flamenco into the mud. Andrés' father Isidoro is obsessed with wanting revenge on Don Manuel, the head of the local crime syndicate, the Junco Family. A battle of words on the street reveals that members of the Junco Family killed Romero. But Don Manuel is also Andrés 'father-in-law and the father of Lola, the wife of Andrés' gang member El Peque, who asks Andrés to leave the problems behind.

The film was the dancer Joaquín Cortés' first major film role . For the French top model Laetitia Casta it was the second film role and was dubbed in the original version by the Spanish actress Ana Fernandez .

Filming was carried out in Madrid , Granada and Guadalajara . The recordings were made on 35 mm film and in Dolby Digital .

Gitano , which was released worldwide under the English title Gypsy , opened in Spanish cinemas on September 1, 2000. Further publications were 2001 in Tokyo , 2002 in Argentina and France.

At the Goya Awards in 2001, Gitano received a nomination in the Best Movie Song category .
