Cuban Travel , original title: Lista de espera (German: Waiting List), is a Cuban feature film by Juan Carlos Tabío from 2000 . The script was based on the novel of the same name by Arturo Arango .

action

The film shows the situation of public transport in Cuba, which reaches the stops either too late or overcrowded. The film also shows how people deal with such everyday problems, as well as their general attitude towards life. The film takes place in a station in central Cuba, where a number of people are waiting for a bus that does not have enough seats for the travelers. When the last bus of the day broke down, the situation seemed completely hopeless. The travelers are not deterred and try to repair the bus with their combined forces. This brings out the special abilities of stowaways, pairs are formed among the travelers and work together. So everyone makes the best of their situation and transforms the stop into a paradise, but this seems to be in danger because, among other things, Jacqueline's Spanish fiancé shows up and her new relationship with the traveler Emilio is endangered.

Awards

Cuban Travel was nominated for the Goya 2001 for Best Foreign Film in Spanish .

Reviews

"Watching this go on is a tremendous pleasure, especially because of the grandiose ensemble of actors, from which, in addition to Cruz, his partner from ' Strawberry and Chocolate ' is named: Jorge Perugorria, who plays an energetic blind man who can see very well."

- kino.de

"With irony, emotional warmth and magical realism, Tabío paints the dream image of socialist happiness in which only interpersonal relationships count."

- cinema.de

"The film is too long and occasionally boring to really entertain with good-hearted people and stories beyond a certain enjoyment of friendly sprinkling with good-hearted people and stories.
