Arturo Arango

Arturo Arango (* 1955 in Manzanillo , Cuba ) is a Cuban writer.

Arango studied at the University of Havana and, after successfully completing this, got a job at the Casa de las Américas cultural institute . In 1989 he was appointed director of this institution and as such he was also editor-in-chief of the "Revista de Casa de las Américas" until 1991. Since 1995 he has been working for the art and literary magazine "La Gaceta de Cuba" published by the national artists ' association UNEAC , and in 1996 he became the deputy editor-in-chief.

Between 1985 and 1996 he took part in several scriptwriting workshops at the state film institute ICAIC . Three of his scripts were filmed by director Juan Carlos Tabío from 2000 onwards . Since 2006 he has been head of the scriptwriting department at the International Film and Television Academy EICTV .

Arango belongs to the "G-20" group of originally twenty Cuban filmmakers who, since May 2014, have been publicly calling for the passage of a film law that takes into account the interests of the film industry, which was previously represented exclusively by the ICAIC.
