Strongbow is a cider brand from England that is now sold worldwide.

Strongbow is produced by Bulmers in Hereford . Bulmers itself is owned by the Scottish & Newcastle Brewery , which has been owned by Heineken since 2008 - with the exception of the branches in Australia and New Zealand, which were sold to the Foster's Group .

“Strongbow” is a slightly dry cider, unlike its more sugary brother “Woodpecker”. Bottled “Strongbow” contains approx. 5.3% alcohol.

Variations

In 2005, in addition to the original, a variation under the name “Strongbow Sirrus” was brought onto the market, which is very similar to the “ Bulmers Original Irish Cider ” from competitor Magners.

Another variation is “Strongbow Black”, which is known as “Strong Dry Cider” with an alcohol content of 7.5% vol. And has not been sold by Heineken since October 2011 due to its relatively high alcohol content. Strongbow "Red Berries", flavored and colored with red berries, has an alcohol content of 4.5% vol.

etymology

The name "Strongbow" goes back to Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke , a Norman nobleman in England, who translated to Ireland in 1169 and conquered parts of the island thanks to his archers. The "Strongbow" has also been retained in the Strongbow company logo, which has been the so-called "thudding arrow" since the 1960s.

In the meantime, the logo has been replaced by a modern variant, which is similar to the Olympic symbol for archery.
