Bulmers Original Irish Cider is a cider produced by Irish Bulmers Ltd. made in Clonmel , Ireland . The company is part of the C&C Group , an Irish food company. In order to avoid confusion with the English product of the same name, Bulmers is marketed outside Ireland under the Magners name .

Magners was the main sponsor of the rugby championship competition Celtic League until 2011 , which has therefore also been known as the Magners League since the beginning of the 2006/07 season .

Company history

In 1935, William Magner in Clonmel produced cider for the first time. In the following two years Magner succeeded in establishing the brand and thus putting the business on a solid foundation. To intensify these efforts, he teamed up with the English cider manufacturer HP Bulmer in 1937 and set up a production facility on Dowds Lane in Clonmel. When Magner withdrew from the business in 1949, only the name Bulmers remained on the company logo. In order to differentiate the cider from Clonmel outside Ireland from the English cider, it has since been marketed under the name Magners .

In 1964 the company name changed to Showerings (Ireland) Ltd. changed. Soon afterwards, the company relocated to Annerville, three kilometers from the center of Clonmel. In 1965 the new and still existing factory was opened. Irish Bulmers Ltd. today employs over 470 people and is a major local employer in the Clonmel community.

In the first year after the introduction of bottle sales in England, Magners was the market leader there with 77% for cider in bottles, because the cider was traditionally marketed there as a barrel or in cans.
