Olivier Marteel (born May 10, 1969 in Nieuwpoort , Belgium ) is a Belgian professional referee of the snooker variant of billiards .

Life

Olivier Marteel is a trained radiology nurse and is an active snooker player himself with a highest break of 78 (in training 133). He obtained his referee license in 1994 and in 2006 led his first professional game with the Masters qualification. In 2015 he became the first Belgian referee to lead the final of the 2015 World Snooker Championship , having previously directed several other finals of ranked tournaments.

His hobbies were soccer, reading medicine books and science fiction films. When asked what he had in his pocket as a referee, he replied: "Four ball markers, a £ 2 coin, a pen and a picture of my deceased grandfather".
