The German Masters 2014 was a snooker tournament of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2013/14 season . It was held from January 29th to February 2nd 2014 in the Tempodrom in Berlin . The defending champion was the Englishman Allister Carter , who, like his previous opponent Marco Fu from Hong Kong , was eliminated in the first round.
Because of the enlarged main round, eight games were played per session this time. Seven tables were set up in the large arena, the last, eighth table was in the small arena. This configuration was retained until the quarter-finals, only three tables were then covered. Not until the semi-finals were all tables dismantled, except for the center court.
The elimination of favorites continued on the second match day. The world number one Neil Robertson escaped in the fifth set - Tian Pengfei led 4-0 - only barely a " white wash " when he was able to save himself in a sixth set, which the Chinese could then transform into victory for himself. Also eliminated Mark Selby , Stephen Maguire and former world champion John Higgins and Mark Williams from.
For the first time in the history of snooker, a quarter-final will be contested entirely by German referees. According to Jan Verhaas , the WPBSA wants to give recognition to the very good achievements of the Germans and decided to take this step.
The winner was Ding Junhui, who defeated his opponent Judd Trump 9: 5 in the final. Trump initially led 4-2. At break it was 4: 4, Trump then only lost three frames before he could score again. His game was often too fast and too imprecise to stand up to his Chinese opponent. After a few balanced games, Ding won the match in the 16th frame. He was the first player in 23 years to win four tournaments in one season. Stephen Hendry last succeeded in this in 1990/1991.

Others
Ronnie O'Sullivan, who had already been eliminated in the qualifying round, traveled to Berlin for a book signing. But he only signed his own books, which you had to buy at the same time. Afterwards it was possible for 20 € per person to be photographed with him and the German Masters Cup - he had won the tournament in 2012 . The queue was approx. 30 m long and partially blocked the entrance and exit, so that the staff had to ensure orderly conditions.
