Khalid Belaied Abumdas (also: Khaled… ; * January 20, 1987 ) is a Libyan snooker player . For the 2013/14 season he was the first Libyan to qualify for the Snooker Main Tour , but after two seasons he lost this status due to continued unsuccessfulness.

Career

As an amateur

Abumdas regularly took part in the ABSF Snooker Africa Championship and the IBSF World Snooker Championship during his amateur days . In his first tournament, the 2008 African Snooker Championship, he made it to the quarter-finals, where he was eliminated from Egypt by Mohammed el Haimy. In the same year he took part for the first time in an amateur world championship , but he was eliminated in the group stage with two wins and five losses (including against Patrick Einsle and Glen Wilkinson ). Also at the amateur world championship in 2009 he was eliminated in the group stage with one win and three losses.

The following year Abumdas took part again in the African Championship, where he lost after surviving the group stage in the first main round against Hatem Yassin . In 2012 he lost 4-2 to Mike Hines in the same round . In the same year he was eliminated from the group stage of an amateur world championship . At the 2013 African Cup of Nations, he made it to the finals, where he met ex-professional Peter Francisco . Even if he lost 6-2, he got permission to start the Main Tour due to Francisco's waiver.

Main tour

Abumdas' first Main Tour season started late in November 2013 due to problems with his visa. He took part in five Main Tour tournaments ( German Masters , Welsh Open , World Open , China Open and the World Championship ), but never came beyond the first qualifying round. In these five games he only won five frames, twice he even lost to zero. His best result was a 5-2 loss to Ryan Day in qualifying for the 2014 China Open . Thus, he ended his first season as the last of the active players on position 131 in the snooker world rankings .

In his second season, Abumdas did not take part in any tournament and thus lost his Main Tour status at the end of the 2014/15 season.
