The Castle Hill is a hill on the southern edge of the moor Foothills . Its 324 meter high knoll is located about one kilometer northeast of the village of Glentress and four kilometers east of Peebles in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders . The Glentress Forest begins on the slopes of Castle Hill and continues north. A short distance north rises the 412 meter high Kirn Law .
Surroundings
The Hope Burn runs along the east flank of Castle Hill , while the Eshiels Burn passes the west flank. Both streams flow into the Tweed at Glentress , which runs off its southern flank.
The remains of an undated hill fort can be found on the top of Castle Hill . It was surrounded by earth walls, which were probably once made with palisades . The fortification, about 75 meters in diameter, encloses an area of about 0.45 hectares . Foundations of houses have been preserved as remains within the enclosure. The site, which is listed as a Scheduled Monument , was disrupted by agricultural use in the 19th century. Off the southeast flank of Castle Hill are the ruins of the Tower Houses Horsburgh Castle and Nether Horsburgh Castle , both of which date to the 16th century.
