history

The Glentress Forest emerged from reforestation in the 1920s. It is one of the oldest forests set up by the Forestry Commission . Today it is looked after by Forestry and Land Scotland , which is responsible for its maintenance, development as a recreation area and wood-based use.

location

The wooded area extends on the left bank of the Tweed east of Peebles . From the A72 to the north, it extends over the southwestern crests of the Moorfoot Hills , including Castle Hill , Ven Law , Black Law , Black Knowe , Totto Hill , Cardon Law and Bowbeat Hill, as well as Dunslair Heights and Makeness Kipps . Its northern end marks the border with Midlothian . South to the Tweed, the Soonhope Burn and Leithen Water flow through the Glentress Forest.

use

The Glentress Forest is developed as a local recreation area. Five hiking trails and seven designated mountain bike routes, each with different degrees of difficulty, are marked and lead over the peaks of the Moorfoot Hills. In addition, a forest nature trail and a forest ropes course are set up.
