Mathias Jeschke

Mathias Jeschke (born August 29, 1963 in Lüneburg ) is a German publisher and writer .

life and work

Jeschke grew up in Munster in the Lüneburg Heath and went to school in Soltau . After graduating from high school , he studied Protestant theology at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg and the University of Rostock . He obtained his diploma with a thesis in homiletics with Karl-Heinrich Bieritz .

During his studies he took part in various stage productions by the theater group at the Heidelberg University of Education under the direction of Gabriele Wächtershäuser and the Heidelberg HardChors under the direction of Bernhard Bentgens and was part of the Heidelberg literature offensive. In addition, during his studies at Radius-Verlag he was in charge of publications by Klaus-Peter Hertzsch , Walter Jens , Dietrich Mendt , Lothar Steiger and others.

Since 1988, poems by Mathias Jeschke have appeared in anthologies (including the yearbook of poetry , most recently in 2017, 2018 and 2019), literary magazines (including Akzente , manuscripts , Neue Rundschau ), newspapers (including Süddeutsche Zeitung ) and on the radio (including NDR and WDR ). Since 2005 he has also published literature for children. His greatest literary success to date are the picture books about the Wechstabenverbuchsler , of which a total of over 40,000 copies have been sold. Translations of his texts have appeared in Australia , China , France , Ireland , Italy , Japan , Mexico , Switzerland ( Romansh ) and Slovenia .

Jeschke has been working for publishers since 1992. Since 1999 he has been working as a lecturer at the German Bible Society . There he oversees the children's, youth and gift book programs. From 2012 to 2017 Jeschke was the editor of the Lyrikpapyri , a series of contemporary poetry volumes by German-speaking authors that was published by Horlemann Verlag , which ceased publishing in 2017. From 2011 to 2015 he was a lecturer in creative writing at the Children's and Youth Academy in Stuttgart. And in 2016 he was a juror at the poetry competition postpoetry .

Mathias Jeschke lives in Stuttgart . He is a member of the authors' forum Der goldene Fisch and heads the media / literature section in the artist community DAS RAD.
