Alan Fitzsimmons is a British astronomer and asteroid explorer.

Between 1993 and 2002 he discovered a total of eleven asteroids on the Canary Island of La Palma , partly together with his colleagues Iwan P. Williams , Michael J. Irwin , Simon Collander-Brown and Donal O'Ceallaigh .

The asteroid (4985) Fitzsimmons was named after him.
