(4985) Fitzsimmons is an asteroid of the main outer belt discovered on August 23, 1979 by the Swedish astronomer Claes-Ingvar Lagerkvist at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile .
The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .
(4985) Fitzsimmons was named after the British astronomer Alan Fitzsimmons .
