career

Youth and amateur, until 1965

Eintracht Frankfurt's talented goalkeeper was appointed to a DFB team for the first time as a junior . He played at the 1963 UEFA tournament in England on April 15 and 17 against Scotland and Switzerland. Both games were won with 2-1 goals. In front of the Frankfurt goalkeeper, the teammates Ferdinand Heidkamp , Jürgen Rumor , Helmut Sandmann , Klaus Zaczyk , Willi Dürrschnabel and Günter Netzer acted . As a member of the Eintracht Amateure, Mühlschwein was appointed to two amateur international matches by the DFB in the 1964/65 season . On May 15, 1965 he guarded the goal of the DFB amateurs in the 4-2 win against Thailand behind the defenders Erhard Ahmann and Heinz Wittmann and on June 2 in Winschoten in the also 4-2 won game against Holland. In the Bundesliga squad of Eintracht, the goalkeeper positions were occupied by Egon Loy and Karl Eisenhofer in the two debut rounds, and for the 1965/66 round, Peter Kunter, a new man from Freiburg FC, came to Riederwald. Mühlschwein therefore moved as a contract footballer to the regional soccer league south to local rivals Kickers Offenbach.

Offenbach and Darmstadt, 1965 to 1970

The team from Bieberer Berg had only finished third in the first two regional league seasons in 1963/64 and 1964/65 and thus failed in their goal of qualifying for the Bundesliga. Under coach Kurt Baluses , the runner-up was won in 1965/66 - Mühlschwein had guarded the OFC goal in 30 games - and thus made it into the Bundesliga promotion round for the first time. There the men around captain Hermann Nuber failed against the competitors Fortuna Düsseldorf , FK Pirmasens and Hertha BSC . In the second Offenbach year, 1966/67, coach Baluses relied more on Rudolf Wimmer in goal and Mühlschwein only made twelve appearances in the regional league. This time Offenbach moved into the promotion round as southern champion. Alemannia Aachen won the promotion place before Offenbach, 1. FC Saarbrücken, Göttingen 05 and Tennis Borussia Berlin. In the promotion round, Wimmer had played all games. In the third season, 1967/68 , coach Baluse entrusted both goalkeepers 17 times each to the keeper position in the regional league and brought the runner-up to Offenbach again. From April 1968 Kurt Schreiner inherited Baluses and led the Kickers against Bayer Leverkusen, TuS Neuendorf, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Arminia Hannover in the third attempt in the Bundesliga. Mühlschwein had played in three games alongside Nuber, Gerd Becker , Heidkamp, Egon Schmitt , Roland Weida and Josef Weilbächer .

After the rise, the student joined SV Darmstadt 98 in 1968/69 and thus remained in the Regionalliga Süd. With the “lilies” from the Böllenfalltor he finished eighth in 1969 with coach Heinz Lucas and experienced teammates Erwin Stein and Wolfgang Solz . He had been in goal in 31 games. When Darmstadt was relegated to the amateur camp with 18th place in 1969/70, Mühlschwein ended his higher-class career in football. From 1965 to 1970 he played 114 goalkeeping games in the Regionalliga Süd. From 1973-74 on, he stood for the Hessian group division FV Sprendlingen 06 in the gate and went to that of Willi seed in the trained team Hessenliga on.

In the meantime, after saying goodbye to the "Lilien", he had pushed his civil engineering studies at the TH Darmstadt, which he was able to successfully complete in 1971. He has been working as a freelancer since 1980 and heads an office for structural engineering and building physics in Dreieich, Hesse .
