Gary Hardiman (born October 14, 1975 ) is an Irish snooker player .

Career

In September 1995, Gary Hardiman reached the quarter-finals of the U21 World Cup and was only barely defeated by Filipino Marlon Manalo 4-5. In 1997 he moved into the final of the Irish amateur championship and lost 6-8 to Thomas Dowling . In 1999 he took part for the first time in the qualification for the professional world championship and was only eliminated in the third pre-qualifying round against the Scot James McBain . At the Irish Amateur Championship in 2000 he lost the final 7-8 against Rodney Goggins . In 2001 he reached the last sixteen of the European Amateur Championship . At the professional world championship in 2003 he made it into the sixth qualifying round. After defeating Frank Fitzgerald , Craig Steadman and Joe Delaney , among others , he was defeated there by Englishman Ricky Walden with 4:10. At the EM 2003 he reached the round of 16.

For the 2003/04 season he qualified for the Main Tour professional tournament series . After five first round defeats, he achieved his first major success at a world ranking tournament at the European Open in 2004 , when he was only eliminated in the round of the last 80 against Mike Dunn . After he was eliminated again in the first round in the two following tournaments, he reached the round of the last 80 at the 2004 World Cup with wins against Billy Snaddon and Kwan Poomjang , in which he lost 4:10 to the Pakistani Shokat Ali . At the end of the season he finished in 108th place in the world rankings and thus lost his Main Tour place.

In the following three seasons Hardiman tried to return to the Main Tour via the Pontin's International Open Series , but never got beyond the round of 16. In qualifying for the 2005 World Cup , he was eliminated in the first round. In 2005, 2006 and 2007 he reached the round of 16 of the Irish Professional Championship . In June 2007 he was eliminated from the European Amateur Championship in the round of 32 against Jordan Brown . It was also his last participation in an international snooker tournament. In 2008 he moved into the final of the Irish Amateur Championship for the third time, but had to admit defeat to Vincent Muldoon 4-8.
