Richard Somauroo (born June 8, 1969 ) is a Mauritian snooker player .

Career

In the 1993/94 season Richard Somauroo took part in eight world ranking tournaments on the Snooker Main Tour , but only reached the second qualifying round at the Dubai Classic , the Welsh Open and the International Open . He turned professional in the 1994/95 season . After he had reached the second qualifying round at the Grand Prix , he succeeded in the UK Championship in 1994 for the first time in the third qualifying round of a ranking tournament, in which he lost to Jason Smith . At the 1995 World Cup , he was eliminated in the second qualifying round.

In the 1995/96 season he made it into the fourth qualifying round at three world rankings. After losing the four-round game at the German Open 1995 with 1: 5 against Pat Kenny , he was eliminated from the International Open and the 1996 World Cup in the fourth qualifying round. In the 1996/97 season he reached the fifth qualifying round in two world ranking tournaments. After he had to admit defeat to Northern Irishman Dylan Leary 3: 5 at the Asian Classic , he missed the Welsh Open with a 4: 5 defeat against Steve Judd just barely making it into the round of 128. At the 1997 World Cup, he was eliminated he out in the second qualifying round. Although he was able to improve in the world rankings from 414th place to 257th place since 1994 , he lost his Main Tour place at the end of the season.

In January 1998 he took part as an amateur player in the qualification for the World Snooker Championship 1998 and was eliminated there in the first round against Allister Carter . Somauroo qualified for the 1998/99 Main Tour season with a 6-0 win over Hitesh Naran in the final of the Africa / Middle East Tour Qualifier . In March 1999 he qualified for the first time at China International for the round of 96, in which he was defeated by Paul Wykes 4-5. At the 1999 World Cup , however, he was eliminated in qualifying. At the end of the season he reached his best place in the world rankings with 117th place. In the 1999/2000 season he only took part in the qualification for the 2000 World Cup , in which he lost in the second round to Richy McDonald , and in a tournament on the UK Tour , in which he reached the second round. At the end of the season he came in 137th world ranking and fell out of the Main Tour.

In February 2001 Somauroo took part as an amateur in qualifying for the World Cup and was eliminated in the third round. At the World Championships in 2002 and 2003 he was eliminated in the second qualifying round. In June 2010 Somauroo took part in the first tournament of the newly introduced Players Tour Championship and lost to the Englishman Kamran Ashraf in the preliminary round . In May 2014 he tried to qualify for the Main Tour through the Q School , but was eliminated in the first round of both tournaments. In March 2015 he was invited to the World Seniors Championship , from which he was also eliminated in the first round.
