Uwe Werner

Uwe Werner (born December 28, 1955 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † February 13, 2018 ) was a German jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , flute ).

Live and act

Werner studied saxophone at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and from the 1980s played in Graz in the Erich Zann Septet and in the band East West Connection he directed (album Live in KKF (1985), with David George, Mick Baumeister , František Uhlíř , Josef Vejvoda ). Since 1982 he has been teaching saxophone at the Schwäbisch Gmünd City Music School.

Werner had been part of the Südpool jazz project, funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg, since 1989 , to which musicians like Herbert Joos , Bernd Konrad and (temporarily) Günter “Baby” Sommer were also committed. In a duo with pianist Mick Baumeister he recorded the album Oh Brother . For many years he was active in the Schwäbisch Gmünd music scene. In the field of jazz he was involved in seven recording sessions between 1985 and 1994, according to Tom Lord ; most recently on the album Das Fest für Ewald Oberleitner: Real Time Music, recorded in 2012 at the celebration of Ewald Oberleitner's birthday .
