Karl Farrent

Karl Farrent (born May 8, 1963 in Wallington near London) is a British jazz trumpeter .

Farrent began to play the trumpet at the age of six, initially classically. In 1974, now living in Lengerich (Westphalia) , he won first prize at Jugend jazzt . Between 1978 and 1984 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra , from 1981 he also played in the EU Big Band, EuroJazz , and in 1983 and 1984 also with Rimaak (album on moers music ). After graduating from the Hannah-Arendt-Gymnasium in Lengerich, he studied with Manfred Schoof and Jiggs Whigham at the Cologne University of Music from 1982 to 1984 . In 1985 Erwin Lehn brought him to the SDR big band as solo trumpeter. He also taught at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts . Farrent has been a managing partner of the SWR Big Band since 1991 . He has also been leading the Bow Tie Big Band since 1993 ; In 2001 he founded the group Jazz-It with Monika Büchner .

In addition to albums with the aforementioned ensembles, he has also recorded one with Monika Linges . Farrent can be heard on a wide variety of sound carriers, radio and television recordings with numerous national and international greats in jazz and popular music. He has also recorded film scores, works as a studio musician and appears regularly at festivals.
