Peter Bockius (born September 25, 1941 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German modern jazz bassist .

Live and act

Bockius learned the piano and organ as a child. After training as a teacher, he studied at the Freiburg University of Music from 1969 to 1974 . He also performed with local Dixieland bands . After finishing his studies, he moved to Basel and played with Umberto Arlati , members of the Swiss Jazz School and with a big band . From 1978 he was a member of the quartet of Wolfgang Engstfeld and Michel Herr . He then worked with Ed Kröger , but also with Tete Montoliu , Uli Beckerhoff (“Home Again”, 1979), Wolfgang Lackerschmid and Paul Grabowsky . At the Leverkusen Jazz Days 1984 he performed with Archie Shepp and Jeanne Lee ("African Moods"). He also played with Horace Parlan , in the "Südpool Project" by Herbert Joos and with Bob Dorough . Then he worked from Munich with the "Gypsy Strings" by Joe Bawelino , the group of Alexandre Nussbaum, with the "Quartetto Italiano" and with his own band. Since the 1980s he has been working in various formations with Michael Hornstein , for example in a trio with Andreas Georgiou and Bobby Falta .
