Thomas Cremer (* 2. December 1948 in Marburg , Germany) is a jazz - drummer and clarinetist . He played with Hans Koller , Heinz Sauer and Bob Degen .

Cremer first played the clarinet and only later switched to drums. During his studies at the Frankfurt Music Academy he worked with various formations on the German jazz scene; in 1969 he played with Alfred Harth in the group Just Music , which recorded the second album of the ECM label. In the mid-1970s he played in Michael Sell's trio . Cremer has worked with Bob Degen since 1979 and played in his trio with bassist Mario Castronari and as a quintet. Later Cremer also played with Heinz Sauer and Günter Lenz (1986/87) and in Larry Porter's trio (1986/87). In 1983 he co-founded the Frankfurt Jazz Big Band . Cremer also played with Peter O'Mara , Hans Koller , Christof Lauer , Hannibal Marvin Peterson , Benny Bailey and also with the Hessischer Rundfunk jazz ensemble . Cremer also worked as a music teacher and recorded records with Bob Degen, Heinz Sauer and Uli Beckerhoff .

Since 1991 he has played with Thomas Heidepriem and the Frankfurt Jazz Connection , from 1994 to 1998 in the formation Double You , since 1994 with the band AXIS . Since 1998 Cremer has run the Frankfurt Jazz Trio with pianist Olaf Polziehn , which has since released four albums. Since 2000 Cremer has also played in the formation Read - Gjakonovski -Cremer . As a drummer and successful producer as well as founder of the Frankfurt Jazz Initiative, he was awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize in 2012.
