Jacek Bednarek

Jacek Bednarek (born May 10, 1944 in Bydgoszcz ; † April 29, 1990 ibid) was a Polish jazz bassist and composer. He was "both a technically adept and also a musician who played with great feeling" ( Bert Noglik ).

Life

Bednarek studied double bass for three years at the Warsaw Academy of Music and then worked for three years as the first double bass player in the symphony orchestra in his hometown. During this time he was already occupied with jazz, first with traditional, then modern and finally free jazz; In 1964 and 1966 he took part in the Jazz nad Odrą Festival in Wrocław , the second time with flautist Henryk Łysiak and drummer Janusz Trzciński. In 1967 he appeared in a trio with trombonist Stanisław Cieślak and drummer Grregorz Gierlowski at a European jazz competition in Zurich, where the group received second prize and Bednarek first prize as an instrumentalist. Then he belonged to the groups of Jan Fryderyk Dobrowolski and Andrzej Kurylewicz . In 1972 he was awarded the Grand Prix at the improvisation festival in Lyon. In the same year he appeared in Brussels with Stanisław Cieślak and Janusz Trzciński, where he also received first prize as an instrumentalist. In Germany he continued to work in the trios of Michael Sell and Dieter Scherf from 1973 . With Sells Trio he merged with the Barrelhouse Jazzband Free and Hot Jazz; with Scherf's Trio he also performed at the Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw. Then he formed a duo with the flautist Krzysztof Zgraja , with whom he played in a duo for the first time in 1979 at the Peitz Jazz Workshop . In the same year he represented Poland at the EBU jazz workshop . In the next few years he also emerged as a film composer . From 1980 on Jacek played regularly in the group Flamenco Inspiration of the dancer Nina Corti until he passed away. There are various music recordings on CD by Nina Corti's music group "Flamenco Inspiration", on which Jacek Bednarek is part of the party.
