Barbara Bürkle

Barbara Bürkle (* 1979 in Böblingen ) is a German jazz singer .

Act

Between 1999 and 2003 Bürkle studied jazz and popular music with the main subject singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim . During her studies she was on tour internationally with the group Groove Connection and the Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg. Afterwards she was in the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer , with whom she toured Namibia and South Africa in 2004. In 2005 she founded the a cappella quartet Klang District with Tanja Pannier, Juan Garcia and Tobias Christl .

In 2010 she released her debut album Everything Allowed with her quintet, founded in 2007 . In addition, she was active in numerous other projects, for example in the Frédéric Rabold Crew ( Stuttgart 21-Suite ), the crossover trio Batist and in a duo with Thilo Wagner . She also appears in her quartet with Gee Hye Lee (piano), Lindy Huppertsberg (bass) and Mareike Wiening (drums).

Barbara Bürkle teaches jazz and pop singing at the Evangelical University for Church Music in Tübingen .

Prizes and awards

Bürkle and her colleagues from Klang district received the Ward Swingle Award in gold (jazz category) and silver (pop category) at Vokal Total in Graz. With this group she won other international prizes, for example in Taiwan and Finland. As a soloist, she won the prestigious Voices Now competition in Brussels in 2008 . She was also a semi-finalist in the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition in 2009 and in the Thelonious Monk Competition in 2010 .
