Tayabas City is a Filipino city in Quezon Province , Administrative Region IV, Calabarzon. It has 99,779 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 66 barangays . It is classified as a sixth income class city in the Philippines.

The city center is about 89 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines, Manila , at the foot of Mount Banahaw . Their neighboring communities are Lucban in the north, Pagbilao in the southeast, Sariaya in the west and Lucena City in the south. The topography of the city is characterized by lowlands , rolling hills and mountainous landscapes. Parts of Mounts Banahaw San Cristobal National Park and Quezon National Park are in the metropolitan area.
Tayabas City is connected to the Bicol region and the metropolitan metropolitan area of Metro Manila via the Maharlika Highway .
history
The history of the city began in 1571/72 when the conquistator Juan de Salcedo explored and subjugated what is now Quezon Province. In 1578 the Franciscans Juan de Plasencia and Diego de Oropesa founded the city of Tabayas and built the first church in the city, where the Basilica of St. Michael Archangel is now located. Tayabas was the seat of the provincial government until March 12, 1901, when it was moved to Lucena. The title of Big City was awarded to Tayabas on July 14, 2007.
