Wolfgang Meyer (musician)

Wolfgang Meyer (born August 13, 1954 in Crailsheim ; † March 17, 2019 in Karlsruhe ) was a German clarinetist .

Live and act

Meyer studied clarinet from 1966 to 1972 with Otto Hermann at the State University of Music in Stuttgart and from 1972 to 1978 at the Hanover University of Music with Hans Deinzer . He was a prizewinner of various “ Jugend musiziert ” competitions and the university competition.

In 1979 he received a teaching position at the Karlsruhe University of Music and was professor there from 1989 to 2016.

He has given master classes in Brazil, Italy, Japan, Canada and Finland. As a soloist , Wolfgang Meyer was particularly committed to contemporary works, among others by Tiberiu Olah , Jean Françaix , Péter Eötvös and Edisson Denissow .

In the chamber music field he preferred to work with his sister Sabine Meyer and Reiner Wehle in the Trio di Clarone, the Zemlinsky Trio, the Carmina Quartet and the Quatuor Mosaïques . In 1996, a collaboration with the Concentus Musicus Vienna under Nikolaus Harnoncourt led to numerous solo concerts and a CD production of Mozart's clarinet concerto . In addition, Wolfgang Meyer has made numerous recordings.
