Location of Schweinsburg-Culten in Saxony |
Schweinsburg-Culten has been part of the municipality of Neukirchen an der Pleiße in the western part of today's Free State of Saxony since 1950 .
history
Schweinsburg-Culten emerged in 1934 from the merger of the towns of Schweinsburg, Culten and Kleinhessen and is located in the Pleiße valley between the towns of Crimmitschau in the north and Werdau in the south.
The first permanent settlement of the Pleißental in this region around Crimmitschau / Werdau took place in the 9th century by Slavs near or around Schweinsburg-Culten and in the 12th century by Thuringians , Franks and Saxons .
Emperor Barbarossa endows the Pleißental region with special rights and hands the area over to the Margrave of Meißen who he established. The Margraviate of Meissen later falls to the Wettins , who meanwhile are allowed to use the name Saxony. After the separation of the Wettins into the Ernestine and Albertine lines, the Pleißental remains in the eastern Albertine area and, after the time of the Electorate of Saxony, belongs to Saxony, which was made a kingdom by Napoleon .
A managed castle with castle complex ( Schweinsburg ) is still a witness of this time. The Bose family as feudal lords have been active in the surrounding regions from Schweinsburg-Culten.
Culten was first mentioned as cults in 1291 .
traffic
Schweinsburg-Culten has a stop on the Leipzig – Hof railway line , which is served by the Central German S-Bahn . Between 1908 and 1963, the Schweinsburg freight yard on the Crimmitschau – Schweinsburg railway line was 500 meters east of it .
additional
- Schweinsburg-Culten became known beyond the GDR borders due to a train accident in 1972 in which 22 people died . The train routes Leipzig – Hof and Gera - Zwickau run through the Schweinsburg-Culten stop . A delayed express multiple unit of the DR class VT 18.16 collided with another train in thick fog after crossing a stop signal. At that time there was no inductive train protection on this route.
- One of the Pleiße's two level measuring stations is in Schweinsburg.
