Meinhard Jenne

Meinhard "Obi" Jenne (born November 18, 1970 in Heidelberg ) is a German musician ( percussionist ) who is active in both classical music and jazz .

Jenne received musical training on drums and piano since 1977 . From the age of eight he played in public concerts, from the age of nine he was involved in recordings. At the age of 18 he composed the music for a commercial. From 1988 until his diploma in 1995 he studied at the State University of Music Trossingen , on the one hand classical percussion with Franz Lang and as a minor subject piano with Wolfgang Bloser .

During this time he was a member of the orchestra of the Nationaltheater Mannheim (1989/90) as well as the Ensemble Modern and as an academic with the Berliner Philharmoniker (1994/95).

As a soloist and ensemble musician, he worked in the field of contemporary music, a. a. furthermore with the Ensemble Modern and for the Klangforum Wien . He was also involved in several album productions with German Brass . To this day there is a regular cooperation with the radio symphony orchestra of the SWR.

Since 1998 he has been leading the musician collective “Band in the Box”, initially every Monday for eight years in Rogers Kiste and from 2006 under the current name in the jazz club of the same name. With Jo Ambros and Mini Schulz , he has been an integral part of Helen Schneider's band M'Jobi since 2004 .

Since 2005 Jenne has been the artistic director of the Porsche Big Band Stuttgart , a musician made up of Porsche employees who appear in public at benefit concerts and other events in their free time.

Together with five other musicians, he has been involved in a Kästner project with Walter Sittler since 2006. The album Hoppel Hoppel Rhythm Club (2006), in which he was involved, received the German Record Critics' Prize .

In recent years he was mainly active in the field of jazz music. Since 2008 he has been a member of the German Jazz Masters , which include Klaus Doldinger , Wolfgang Dauner , Manfred Schoof and Wolfgang Schmid . In 2009 and with a larger cast, the Stuttgart Jazz Orchestra project emerged from this , which, in addition to classic big band literature, also performed compositions and arrangements by the local composers.

He was also a member of the Joo Kraus ACF , the Klaus Graf Quartet and the David Gazarov Trio, with whom he also recorded albums. He heads the Meinhard Obi Jenne Group, which released an album on Mons Records . He also performed with Benny Golson , Art Farmer , Jimmy Woode , Max Greger jr. , Ack van Rooyen , Paul Heller , Adrian Mears , Kenny Wheeler , Jon Hendricks , Bill Ramsey , Rachel Gould , Cécile Verny , the Pointer Sisters , Les McCann , Wolfgang Schmid , Chuck Berry , Libor Sima , Katie Melua , Till Brönner , Chaka Khan , Janice Dixon and the SWR Big Band . In 2016 the Stuttgart jazz ensemble, under the direction of Jenne, presented another series of music for children's ears . Other current projects are the band TRI, the Jazz Diamonds or the Soul Diamonds , with which he is expanding his musical spectrum towards soul and pop.

Jenne is also the artistic director of the classical and jazz concert programs in the town center of Backnang . He is the managing director of the Musikbüro Jenne GmbH.

Jenne is married to the violinist Gesa Jenne  . They have been living in Stuttgart with their three children since 1998.
