Rainer Erd

Rainer Erd (* 1944 in Gladenbach ) is a German lawyer specializing in information and data protection law.

Live and act

Rainer Erd passed his Abitur in Kassel in 1965. He then studied sociology and law in Frankfurt am Main. After passing the 2nd state examination in law , Erd worked from 1975 to 1989 as a legal research assistant at the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research . During this time he received his doctorate in law. He had study stays at Harvard University , the Labor Department in Washington DC (USA) and in New York.

Erd completed his habilitation in sociology on two American unions in transition. He worked as a management consultant at Hirzel, Leder & Partner (HLP) before moving to the regional council in Gießen in 1993 where he a. founded the Mittelhessischer Kultursommer. From 1993 to 2010 Erd was professor for information law at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and headed the information law course there . During this time he studied several times in China, especially in Beijing, where he worked for the law firm Hylands Law Firm. In addition, he was the data protection officer at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and long-time co-editor of the journal Kritische Justiz .

After his retirement, Erd worked as a lawyer in the Frankfurt law firm Schmalz from March 2010 to August 2012. From 2012 to January 31, 2017, he was chairman of the "Peter Paul and Emmy Wagner-Heinz Foundation" in Frankfurt am Main, which u. a. runs the cultural work “Die Fabrik”. In 2020 he became a lecturer for information law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and at the universities of Frankfurt / M. and Fulda.

Since May 2017 Earth is on the board of the Foundation for the big band of Hessian Radio . In addition, he trains entrepreneurs for the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will apply from May 2018. Erd is married and has two sons.
