Bernhard Pichl

Bernhard Pichl (* 1966 ) is a German pianist of mainstream jazz . With his trio he has "developed a piano trio sound that celebrates the swinging tradition knowledgeably, relaxed and fresh."

Live and act

Pichl completed his studies with Chris Beier at the Hermann-Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg . Study visits to the USA followed.

He leads his own trio with bassist Rudi Engel and drummer Michael Keul. The trio performed frequently in Germany with Scott Hamilton , with whom they released the albums How About You and Tight but Loose . Pichl made recordings with jazz musicians such as Jimmy Cobb , Red Holloway and Benny Bailey . In the Sunday Night Orchestra he worked with Maria Schneider and Jerry Bergonzi .

Pichl also worked with Jim Snidero , James Moody , Valery Ponomarev , Teddy Edwards , Jim Rotondi , Tony Lakatos , Rolf Kühn , Herb Geller , Victor Lewis , Bobby Watson , Don Braden , Al Porcino , Charly Antolini , Pete York , Ack van Rooyen , Reinette van Zijtveld , Curtis Lundy , Don Menza and Keith Copeland . He has also been involved in CD productions with Pete Yellin , the Sunday Night Orchestra , Conte Candoli , Charlie Mariano , Leszek Zadlo , John Ruocco / Adrian Mears , Bill Elgart , Ugetsu , Dusko Goykovich , Hubert Winter and the Jazz Age Ensemble by Rainer Glas ( 2006) involved.

Pichl has performed at international festivals such as the Leverkusener Jazztage , the Burghausen Jazz Week, the Domotosolla Jazz Festival Italy, the East-West Jazz, the Beijing Jazz Festival, the Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival, the Novisad Jazz Festival and the Sofia Jazz Festival.

Furthermore, Pichl has been a lecturer for jazz piano , jazz history and ensemble at the Nuremberg University of Music since 1999 and was also active in the same function at the Würzburg University of Music.
