Michael Flügel (born October 20, 1970 in Nuremberg ) is a German jazz musician ( piano and composition ).

Live and act

Flügel started playing the piano when he was five. At the age of 18 he attended the first jazz workshops. He then studied jazz and modern music at the Hanover University of Music and Theater and the Würzburg University of Music . Hubert Winter , Sebastian Strempel , Rainer Werb and Dejan Terzic played in his quintet . He was also a member of the groups of Norbert Emminger and Lutz Häfner , on whose albums he is also involved. He also went on tour with Ingrid Jensen , Enrico Rava , Leszek Zadlo , Bert Joris , Johannes Faber and Martin Krusche . Currently (2012) he plays in the quintet of Tony Lakatos and Axel Schlosser , with whom he also appeared in China, as well as in the Nuremberg Big Band Sunday Night Orchestra . There are also concerts with saxophonist Roman Schwaller . In 2017 he plays with the saxophonist Emil Mangelsdorff , who is 91 years old at the time of the performance.

Prizes and awards

As a member of the Lutz Häfner Quartet, the pianist took part in the finals of the European Jazz Competitions in Leverkusen , Bilbao and Hoeilart , where they each won second prizes. In 2001 he received the city of Fürth's cultural sponsorship award .
