Lutz Haefner
Lutz Häfner (* 1972 in Nuremberg ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , clarinets ).
Live and act
Häfner began playing the saxophone as a student at the Sigena grammar school in his hometown and was initially enthusiastic about jazz rock . After graduating from high school, he studied business administration for two semesters before deciding on a career as a musician. From 1992 to 1994 he studied at the Mannheim University of Music and then continued his training at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg until 1996 . In 2000 he finished his studies at the Cologne University of Music . From 1995 to 1997 he belonged to the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer , and in 1995 to the Franco-German jazz ensemble of Albert Mangelsdorff . He was a member of the Sunday Night Orchestra from the very beginning and was also involved in its production with Maria Schneider . He also played with the Conexion Latina ( Mambo Nights ). In 1996 he appeared for the first time at the Jazz East-West festival , and then appeared at festivals in Bilbao and New York City.
Häfner also works as a composer in his own groups and has released various albums, most recently the trio CD RAL 3 (2011) with Brazilian-inspired pieces and the duo album Deep (2012) with pianist Rainer Böhm . He was also involved in albums by Torsten Goods , Till Brönner , Joo Kraus and Adrian Mears , toured with Chuck Leavell, Ron Spielmann and the Fantastischen Vier and worked as a studio musician for Tony Marshall , Sarah Connor and the Strike Boys. As an arranger and producer he also worked for Roger Cicero ( In this Moment ), Max Herre and Die Fantastischen Vier. Since the winter semester 2012 he has been appointed professor for jazz saxophone at the Bern University of the Arts .
Prizes and awards
In 1998, Häfner was a finalist in the European Jazz Competition . He also received the Nürnberger Nachrichten International Jazz Prize (1999) and the MDR Culture Prize. In 2013 he was awarded the ECHO Jazz as a saxophonist .
