Edith Steyer

Edith Steyer (born May 17, 1968 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician (saxophone).

Steyer only decided to become a professional musician after studying ethnology in Munich; from 1991 to 1995 she studied jazz saxophone with Allan Praskin at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz .

In 1996 she toured Germany and Austria with the Bavarian cabaret artist Ringsgwandl . In 1996 and 1998 she worked with the composer Wilfried Hiller on productions for the school radio series Klangbaustelle Klimperton . She recorded her first album in 1999 with her Posterity Quintet . In 2002 she took part in the performance of Bardo Henning's street opera Achmeds Traum in Berlin. She played in a duo with Lizzy Scharnofske ( Sinnlichkeit & Wahnsinn , 2010). From 2011 she performed with her Rosen Quintet (with Benedikt Joch, Nikolaus Neuser , Igor Spallati , Kay Lübke) and with the Ensemble Chiffchaff. Since 2012 she has been part of the Composers Orchestra Berlin (under Hazel Leach ). She was also responsible for the musical accompaniment of several theater productions. She also worked with Andreas Schmidt and Lee Konitz as well as with the ladies marching band and music comedy troupe venusbrass . She can also be heard on albums by the Burghausen big band under Al Porcino .
