Ronny Graupe (* 1979 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German jazz guitarist .

Graupe, who won the first prize at Jugend jazzt in 1996 and performed at the Leipzig Youth Jazz Festival in 1997, began his studies in 1998 at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig , which he continued from 2002 to 2003 at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen . At the same time he played in Bujazzo from 1998 to 2001 . Since 2002 he has formed the trio Hyperactive Kid with Christian Lillinger and Philipp Gropper , which has released six albums so far (2020). The musician , who lives in Berlin, also worked with Oliver Schwerdt , Kalle Kalima , Carsten Daerr , Tyshawn Sorey , Frank Möbus , John Schröder , Benjamin Weidekamp and Rolf Kühn ( Close-Up ), but also in formations with Ulrich Kempendorff, Wanja Slavin , Henning Sieverts , Johannes Lauer and Laura Schuler . He played concerts in Central Europe, Spain, France, Italy, Great Britain and Venezuela.

In 2004 he founded the group Spoom with Christian Lillinger and Jonas Westergaard , which he expanded into a quartet with Christian Weidner in 2019 . After Spoom first dealt with jazz standards, the formation soon began to work with compositions by Ronny Graupe. In contrast to traditional jazz standards, these compositions tend to pursue classical elements. In contrast to traditional jazz, the musical context is not limited to short musical themes, which are then followed by improvisation; rather, musical ideas are processed and processed so that a longer compositional arc can be recognized. The improvisations are equivalent to the notated composition. They represent a reflection on the composed part.

Graupe has been a lecturer in jazz guitar at the Bern University of the Arts since 2012 .

Prizes and awards

In 2001 he received the jazz scholarship from the Marion Ermer Foundation Leipzig.
