Ulrich Wangenheim

Ulrich Wangenheim (born November 21, 1973 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician ( saxophones , clarinets , flute , composition , also piano and drums ).

Live and act

Wangenheim, who played in the Contrast Sextet group as a youth , studied saxophone and flute at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich ; During his studies he was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Bavaria and the Federal Jazz Orchestra . He led his own groups such as the Ulrich Wangenheim Quartet, for which he also composed. In 1998 he was one of the founding members of the Tied & Tickled Trio . He also belonged to the Max Frankl Quintet ( Sturmvogel ) and the Tobi Hofmann Quintet ( Dance of the Particles ) and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival as well as at the North Sea Jazz Festival ; he worked with the Summit Jazz Orchestra and Clark Terry , Claudio Roditi ( MindGames ), as well as Dusko Goykovich and his Munich Bigband . He can also be heard on albums by 3 Shades of Blues , Jerker Kluges Deep Jazz and The Notwist ( Neon Golden ). As a studio musician, he continued to work for Tocotronic , Pelzig , Die Sterne , Victor Alcántara , Marco Hertenstein , Gert Wilden junior and for television and advertising.

Together with drummer Martin Kolb, he has been responsible for the Jazz + series in Munich's Seidlvilla since 1994 .

Prizes and awards

In 1996 Wangenheim won first prize as a soloist at the Plovdiv International Jazz Festival and in 1999 first prize at Jugend jazzt .
