Olaf Schönborn

Olaf Schönborn (born August 25, 1967 in Heidenheim / Brenz ) is a German jazz musician ( soprano and alto saxophone ).

Live and act

Schönborn initially received basic musical training on the recorder and in the church choir as well as piano lessons. From the age of 17 he was taught the saxophone. From 1988 to 1995 he studied English and geography for teaching at the University of Tübingen , interrupted by a year of study at Arizona State University in Phoenix, where he studied jazz saxophone. From 1996 to 2000 he completed the jazz and popular music course at what was then the Heidelberg-Mannheim University of Music .

Schönborn worked as a saxophonist in groups such as Accoustic Affaire , the fusion band Fridge People and Fritz Münzer's Tentett before founding his own group Changes . In addition, he began to work in various Allen Blairman projects . In 2008 he went on tour with his quartet Q4 , which included Daniel Stelter, Martin Simon and Tilman Bruno. He also worked with Maria Schneider , Joe Gallardo , Herb Geller , Kosho , Valery Ponomarev , Alex Sipiagin , Carolyn Breuer , Jochen Brauer , Thilo Wagner , Klaus Wagenleiter and Frank Kuruc . He is also a member of Sarah Kaiser's band .

He also played in the big bands of Rainer Tempel and Russ Spiegel as well as the Bobby Burgess Bigband Explosion , the Würzburg Jazz Orchestra, the Mannheim Jazz Bigband, the SAP Bigband and the Kicks'n Sticks Bigband. He also worked as a theater musician. He can also be heard on albums by the Mannheim Wind Philharmonic Orchestra. With Thomas Siffling and Fritz Münzer he founded Emanon Musikverlag and the labels Jazz 'n' Arts and Rodenstein Records in 2000 .
