Russ Spiegel (born March 30, 1962 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz guitarist who is mainly active in the field of modern jazz .

Live and act

Spiegel, who comes from a family of musicians, grew up in Santa Monica . After successfully studying philosophy at the University of Michigan , he also became a musician and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston . He has lived in Germany since the early 1990s, was particularly active in the Rhine-Main-Neckar area and performed at several European jazz festivals, such as the Leverkusen Jazz Days and in 1999 at the German Jazz Festival with his group Big Bang . In particular, his commitment to Barbara Dennerlein made him known in Germany. He founded a funk combo called the Royal Club Band and several jazz bands. In 2001 he returned to the United States to settle in New York City . There he leads, among other things, a seventeen-piece big band. In 2009 he toured with a program influenced by Indian music. He also worked with Charly Antolini , Stefan Bauer , Han Bennink , Mighty Flea Conners , Lindy Huppertsberg , Steve Potts and Jimmy Woode .
