Victor Alcantara

Victor Alcántara (* 1975 in Munich ) is a German pianist, singer and composer of Peruvian descent who is at home in both classical and jazz .

Live and act

Alcántara, whose twin brother is the saxophonist Rafael Alcántara , trained as an alto soloist in the Tölzer Boys Choir , with which he also performed internationally. At the age of 17 he was a pianist in the Federal Jazz Orchestra . He studied jazz piano, classical piano and film composition at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and at the Munich University of Music and Theater .

Then he worked as a film composer ( La Mer with Franka Potente ), studio musician ( Knallharte Jungs , Das Wunder von Bern ) and arranger ( Nina Hagen Big Band Explosion). He released several albums with his own bands; with his brother he formed the Formacion Alcántara . He also worked as a sideman with Peter O'Mara ( Back Seat Driver 1999), Bobby Shew , Clark Terry and Don Menza .

Since 2001 he has been teaching jazz piano and improvisation at several German music academies. He has written a textbook Liedspiel und Lied accompaniment on the piano: Improvisation, Harmonization und Stilkunde (Munich 2015). In 2009 he won a prize at the International Uuno Klami Competition for Composition in Finland with his piano concerto Toccata Concertante .
