Boban Babunski ( Macedonian Бобан Бабунски ; born May 5, 1968 in Skopje , then SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav and Macedonian football player and later coach. He is the father of soccer players Dorian and David Babunski .

Career

societies

Babunski began his career in his hometown near Vardar Skopje . After he had become an important part of the team as a central defender and had completed almost 150 league games, he moved to CSKA Sofia in 1992 , making him the first Macedonian to play in the Bulgarian A Grupa . In 1994 he left the club. Several stations abroad followed, including in Spain, Japan and Greece. The CD Logroñés was the last station from 1999 to 2000 that Babunski played regularly. In his subsequent engagements, he could no longer get beyond the role of the supplementary player. The German second division Chemnitzer FC , which he joined for the 2000/01 season, was one of these stations . Here he made his debut on the 7th matchday in the 0-2 home defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Against LR Ahlen , Babunski scored his first and only goal for Chemnitz in a 2-2 draw on matchday 11. At the end of the season he left Germany and returned to his home country Macedonia. There he completed three more games for Rabotnički Skopje in the following season , before ending his playing career in 2002.

National team

Babunski made his debut on September 4, 1991 for Yugoslavia in the 3-4 loss to Sweden . He completed two more international matches for Yugoslavia before the state finally fell apart. As a result, Babunski played for Macedonia . There he made his debut in the young nation's first international match, in the 4-1 win on October 13, 1993 against Slovenia . In the 3-0 win against Liechtenstein in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup , he led his selection onto the pitch as captain for the first time. In the same game he scored his first and only goal for the Macedonian national football team. In his last international match, the 1-1 draw against Ireland on October 9, 1999, he was the last to lead his team as captain.

Trainer

Babunski began his coaching career in 2002 as an assistant to Slobodan Santrač in the Macedonian national football team. When he resigned in 2005, Babunski took over the team on an interim basis, but had to give way to Srečko Katanec soon after . He later temporarily coached Rabotnički Skopje, the club where he once ended his career. From 2009 to 2014 he coached the Macedonia U-21 national team .
