Wolfram Derschmidt (* 1964 in Wels ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( double bass ).

Live and act

As a child, Derschmidt received cello and clarinet lessons . At the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz he studied double bass with Wayne Darling , Adelhard Roidinger and Ewald Oberleitner . Then he belonged to bands like LandLuft, Blue Brass, Hollotrio, Ars Futura and the Stafford James String Project. He played with musicians as diverse as Karlheinz Miklin , Ines Reiger , Toots Thielemans , Peter O'Mara , Boško Petrović , Ack van Rooyen , Terje Rypdal , Woody Schabata , Wolfgang Puschnig , Toninho Horta , Oliver Lake , Kirk Lightsey , Irina Karamarković , Shantel or Azar Lawrence . Stylistically, his spectrum ranges from jazz and classical music to folk music (as catering absorbers with Martin Moro and Martin Burböck). As a companion he has worked on around two dozen records and has appeared at festivals in Europe, North America and Asia. With Klaus Dickbauer , Daniel Oman, Wolfgang Heiler and Thomas Wall, he is part of the Austrian Art Gang quintet , which released an album in 2017 with cross-genre improvisations on Bach's art of fugue .
