Today Forever (German: "Today Forever") was a German hardcore punk band from Kassel founded in 2003 . The band broke up in 2017.

history

Today Forever was founded in 2003 by Christian Besteck, Tim Schütz, Roman Terpitz and David Glöckner. In the first year of its existence, the band recorded their first demo CD on their own . Shortly afterwards, Roman Terpitz left the band and was replaced in 2004 by Manuel Otto, who had already performed with the band as a guest musician.

Today Forever immediately began to write new songs and record them in the Kohlkeller Studios . With the release of the first album The new Pathetic on the label Strike First Records  / Facedown Records (USA) there was another final change in the line-up. Christian Besteck gave the bass to Marco Engelhardt so that he could only devote himself to the vocals.

This was followed by appearances with bands like Comeback Kid , Modern Life Is War , Converge and Deadsoil . In 2006 the first six-week tour through North America came . Afterwards they were the opening act for the Canadian band Silverstein on their Germany tour and played in the opening act of Ignite , Maintain , Terror and others at individual concerts . During this time they played more than 250 concerts and recorded videos for the songs Better Values and Pinpoint the Shift .

In 2008, Today Forever were again the opening act for Silverstein, but this time on the entire European tour, which took the five people from Kassel through metropolises from Spain to Finland in two weeks. After that, Today Forever separated from your label to release the new album Profound Measures on April 17, 2009 on the Bastardized Recordings label.

Since April 2010 the band has been writing new pieces for another album. Private engagements of the band members delayed this process, so that the first recordings in the studio were not started until March 2011. Today Forever decided to work again with the Kohlenkeller Studios . The last recordings for the new album were only recorded in September 2011. The musicians also decided to record the vocals, bass and crew vocals (with Kid D Rykers, among others ) themselves in their own rehearsal room. The reason for this was the search for a rougher sound. On January 6, 2012, the album Relationshipwrecks was released via Bastardized Recordings . The digital release was carried out by the Canadian label Verona Records , whose founder Shane Told (singer of the band Silverstein ) has been a long-time companion and friend of the band. After the publication of Relationshipwrecks, the band decided to part with drummer Tim Schütz. Florian Pieper (Rykers) took over his position in March 2012 and played his last Today Forever concert on January 11, 2014. Jan Erichson, who had been available to the band at festivals as a replacement on drums since 2013, became a permanent member of the band. In January 2014, the last album Relationshipwrecks was released again, but this time on ancient cassettes. The publication was realized via the newly founded tape label Oktogon. It got quieter around the 5 men from Kassel. Isolated concerts at home and abroad never let the band disappear completely from focus.

It would be two years before Today Forever announced a new release for 2016. Nine tracks were produced in the hometown in the Kassel studio. In addition, it was decided to have the artwork and the picture material made by artists from Kassel, so that the new album called Derangement became a complete hometown production. The distribution was again via Bastardized Recordings . The digital release was again done by Shane Told via his Verona Records label . Following the release, Today Forever toured Germany again with bands like Silverstein and Being as an Ocean .

In 2017 things got quieter around the band at the beginning of the year. The band announced the breakup for 2017. The reason was the desire to be able to take care of families and jobs. On November 3rd, 2017 the band gave their last concert in the gold mine in Kassel.

style

The style of the band falls into the category of new school hardcore . Most of their lyrics are emotional and describe the wishes of the five musicians or tell stories of things they experienced together. Their music has elements of hardcore and metal . Shouting and singing alternate with melody and mosh parts.

background

Due to the record deal with the former label Guideline Records , the band adhered to the image of a Christian hardcore band. That means that the five musicians would make music to announce or spread their beliefs. From today's perspective, this was certainly one of the reasons for the change of label. In interviews (e.g. Fuze magazine), the musicians from Today Forever emphasized that they are five very different people and that their different beliefs are not the reason why they make music together. Quote: "... we make music for the sake of music [...] we are a passionate hardcore band that underpins its emotions and stories with music, no more and no less ...". With these statements, Today Forever distanced itself from its falsely attached image.
