Modern Life Is War is an American melodic hardcore band formed in 2002 in Marshalltown , Iowa , United States . The band broke up in 2008 but came back together in 2012. Modern Life Is War is mentioned as an influence by several post-hardcore bands.
history
Modern Life Is War was founded in 2002 in Marshalltown , Iowa , United States . In the same year, their first EP Modern Life Is War was released on Lifeline Records. The first studio album My Love followed in 2003 . My way. via the label of Converge singer Jacob Bannon Deathwish Inc. Two years later, Witness followed on the same label , which should become the band's most successful album. Shortly after the release, guitarist Matt Hoffmann and bassist Chris Honeck left the band, they were replaced by Sjarm 13 and Tim Churchman. In February 2007 it was announced that Modern Life Is War had signed with Equal Vision Records , followed in August by the album Midnight in America .
On February 19, 2008, the band announced on MySpace that they would split up after one last American tour. As a reason, singer Jeffrey Eaton later stated that the permanent touring would have put too much strain on the band.
In September 2012, the founding members of the band decided to make music together again and write a new album. One year later, Fever Hunting on Deathwish Inc. published. Despite the reunion and the new album, the band decided to tour less in the future and especially to play isolated concerts in the USA and at festivals. Nevertheless, a ten-day European tour followed in April 2015 with shows in Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
style
Modern Life Is War is mostly assigned to Hardcore Punk or Melodic Hardcore . Singer Jeffrey Eaton feels that such classifications make sense, but doesn't see himself as belonging to a certain scene. Flo Hayner from Visions wrote about the albums Witness and Midnight in America that the "gloomy atmosphere, coupled with the hoarse vocals suspended between accusation and encouragement, and the punk attacks that were beaten to the front [...] make these works classics" do. Modern Life Is War is the model for several post-hardcore bands, such as Touché Amoré , La Dispute and Defeater .
