KUZ cross Fulda

The cultural interchange , abbreviated cross or KUZ Cross , is a cultural center in Fulda . It is a meeting point for East Hesse nightlife and a place for cultural events with a supra-regional catchment area. The Kulturzentrum Kreuz eV is a registered association and is operated by it.

history

In 1973, today's Fulda University of Applied Sciences opened in Fulda (then still a technical college). After taking their diploma in social work in 1977, some students wanted to set up a children's and youth home as part of a project group. As a prerequisite for financial support from the State Welfare Association was a year-long operation without funding, a collective of former students decided to earn the money by running a pub . In October 1977 they opened the Kreuz pub in the Horas district of Fulda . This traditional Horas restaurant - originally called the Iron Cross - had been vacant for several years at that time. After a year they said goodbye to the idea of founding a children's home and developed the restaurant further, so that, also because there were no other meeting places for students, it developed into a trendy bar. In 1982 some of the collective members were co-founders of the local Green Association .

In the years that followed, an adjacent beer garden was opened and two new halls were built in the early 1980s. At the opening in October 1984 the band Fehlfarben performed .

Since the second half of the 1980s, people began leasing or renting restaurants in and around Fulda. In 1988 the night café in downtown Fulda was rented , and in 1990 the cog . At the beginning of the 1990s, the question of commercial liability also arose. The members of the collective therefore founded the Kreuz Kultur- und Gaststätten GmbH . In 1995 the club became vibe! who specialized in acid jazz and drum and bass . The CaféBar22 , founded in October 1995, was also Fulda’s first internet café , then equipped with two computers with analog modems . In 1997 the museum café and Club24 in the museum basement were founded in the Vonderau Museum building . From 1999 the culture cellar of the city of Fulda was set up in the basement of the museum and leased by the city. From 2003 the Kreuz GmbH is co-organizer of the Burg-Herzberg-Festival . In 2004 a family beer garden was opened, from 2005 to 2007 the Gasthaus Zum Löwen was operated. In 2007 the cross celebrated its thirtieth anniversary.

Since the beginning of 2016, only the Museum Cafe has belonged to Kreuz GmbH. The KUZ Kreuz in Fulda-Horas, Schlitzer Str. 81, 36039 Fulda and the culture cellar in the Vonderaumuseum, Jesuitenplatz 2, 36037 Fulda, are operated by the Kulturzentrum Kreuz eV.

Cultural meaning

The cross sees itself as an institution that gives a place to many common forms of culture. In addition to rock , punk and world music concerts, there are also events by theater and cabaret artists. The target group are mostly younger citizens. The cultural work was funded by the state of Hesse and the city council of Fulda. From 1992 the association Kulturzentrum Fulda eV , responsible for the cultural work in the facilities, received an annual project funding of 100,000 DM. After massive cuts, local companies support the cultural work.

Over the years, numerous prominent artists have appeared in the cross itself or in the associated locations. Highlights were appearances by the doctors (a total of three appearances), the Toten Hosen , Rosenstolz (1994), the Fantastischen Vier (1995), Rammstein (1996), Soulfly (2006), July (2006), Silbermond (2006) and Sido (2009 ).
