history

Until 2012: musical beginnings

Ruben Den Boer and Victor Pool met at their school when they were 15. Inspired by musicians like Eric Prydz and the Swedish House Mafia , they started producing songs from the field of progressive house in 2012 . Their first release appeared in the same year with a remix for the song We Come Running by the American music group Youngblood Hawke. At the same time, they signed a contract with the Canadian record label Monstercat . There Vicetone released the instrumental piece Harmony in December 2012 , which got them into the genre charts of the music portal Beatport .

2013: Heartbeat & Tour with Nicky Romero

On March 1, 2013 they released the single Heartbeat , the vocals of which were contributed by the American singer-songwriter Collin McLoughlin. With the track they were able to enter the official Beatport Top 100 for the first time. The track Stars , which was sung by the American vocal producer Jonny Rose, was released in April 2013 via Armin van Buuren's record label Armada Trice . The song made it into the top 10 of the Beatport charts. In July 2013 they appeared as a support act on Nicky Romero's Nothing Toulouse: North American Tour . At the same time Vicetone released the song Beast on Monstercat , which is a remix of the song of the same name by the American rock band Nico Vega from 2009. The electro house track Tremble was released in August 2013 , followed by Chasing Time with Daniel Gidlund in September 2013. In October 2013 they were part of the line-up of the Protocol Recordings ADE 2013 Label Night. At the same time, the duo released the free track The New Kings , which is a remix of the song of the same name by Popeska and Luciana. In November of the same year they were part of #NERVOnation tour in Mexico by Nervo . At the same time, they were included in DJ Magazine's list of Top 100 DJs at number 60 for the first time .

2014: Astronomia , Let Me Fee & Soundtrack of the Ultra Music Festival

On February 10, 2014, the duo released the Big Room track Lowdown on the Dutch record label Spinnin 'Records, which enabled them to get another placement in the Beatport Top 100. In March 2014, they first appeared at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. At the same time, the song White Lies was released , a collaboration with the American singer Chloe Angelides on Nicky Romero's record label Protocol Recordings. After the song Ensemble was released in June 2014 , the duo released a revised version of the song Astronomia by Russian producer Tony Igy from 2010 on July 10, 2014 as a free download. Within a very short time, the remix was able to achieve several million clicks on platforms like YouTube or SoundCloud. It wasn't until September 2016 that the track was released as a single worldwide on the Danish record label "disco: wax". In the late summer of 2014, they performed parallel to the release of the single Heat on Hardwell's record label Revealed Music , including at the Tomorrowworld Festival in Atlanta . In October 2014 they moved up to number 36 on the DJ-Mag charts. In the same month they released the single Let Me Feel , which was created in collaboration with Nicky Romero. The song sung by We Are Wild could reach the top of the Beatport charts. The song United We Dance , released in November 2014 , served as the soundtrack of the aftermovie of the Ultra Music Festival 2014. Together with the US singer-songwriter Lucky Daye, they recorded the song What I've Waited For , released in December 2014 .

2015: Follow Me - anthem of the Ultra Music Festival

In February 2015, the duo released the song Follow Me , which was recorded in collaboration with the American singer JHart. The track served as the anthem of the Ultra Music Festival 2015. As a result of the release, United We Dance was also released as a re-release via Ultra Records . In April 2015, the song No Way Out , composed with singer Kat Nestel, followed . After they contributed a remix for the song No Pressure by Little Boots , released via Dim Mak, their single Catch Me was released on the label in late summer 2015 . Shortly thereafter, the song I'm on Fire followed on Spinnin 'Records, which advanced to number 11 on the Beatport charts.

2016: Aurora -EP

The song Pitch Back was released in January 2016 . In March 2016 Vicetone released the single Bright Side , which served as a harbinger of the announced EP Aurora . The song, influenced by tropical house, was sung by the American pop duo Cosmos & Creature. In the same month, the track Don't You Run, sung by Indian-American singer Raja Kumari, was released as a second single. For the club track Siren , which was released as the last single on the EP in April 2020, they worked with American Idol participant Pia Toscano. On April 8, 2016, Vicetone released the EP Aurora , with which, according to them, they took a new stylistic direction. In the summer of 2016, the duo released a remix version of the 1979 disco song Hot Stuff by American singer Donna Summer on Spinnin 'Records . At the same time, the single Nevada was released on Monstercat . The vocals were provided by the American actress and singer Cozi Zuehlsdorff . Between late summer 2016 and winter 2016 the songs Anywhere I Go , Kaleidoscope and Landslide were released , which were designed to be calm in relation to Nevada . The latter was created in collaboration with the indie band Youngblood Hawke, for which the duo was active as a remix producer in 2012.

2017: Apex as the soundtrack for Rocket League

In February 2017 Vicetone contributed a remix to the song Oceans Away , the American indie band Arizona . The single I Hear You followed in June 2017, following the style of their EP released the previous year. The track Apex , released in July 2017 , served as the soundtrack of the computer game Rocket League . The single was released on the Monstercat record label and was particularly praised for its "varied" design with stylistic devices from the genres "deep house, progressive house and electro house". In August 2017, the duo released the song Collide . This was created in collaboration with the American singer-songwriter Rosi Golan and was based on the duo's commercial productions.

2018: South Beach in memory of Avicii

After releasing the song Fix You in February 2018 , the single Way Back was released in March 2018 , which was her second collaboration with singer Cozi Zuehlsdorff after Nevada . With the song Walk Thru Fire , which was released in August 2018 and contained vocals by Meron Ryan, they returned to their classic progressive house tones for the first time in many months. The Sigle South Beach was published on October 12, 2018 . This was based on a song idea that the duo designed in 2012 and was inspired by the sound of the Swedish DJ and producer Avicii , who died in April 2018 . Vicetone called Avicii "the greatest example of the energy and feeling they would want in their music". In November 2018 the single Something Strange followed , the vocals of which were contributed by the American Idol singer Haley Reinhart . For the single, which served as a harbinger of their second EP Elements , they also shot a music video that shows all three contributors.

2019: Elements -EP

On February 22nd, 2019 they released their second EP Elements , which was based on quieter tracks, similar to their first EP. The song Fences , the vocals of which was contributed by the American singer-songwriter Matt Wertz, was released as the second single. A remix version of the EP was released in May 2019. One week a collaboration with Eric Leva and Daisy Guttridge appeared with the song Waiting . The single Ran Out of Reasons , released in August 2019, is another duet. The vocals were taken over by Jude and Night Panda. After taking a more commercial stylistic direction in the first half of the year, they returned to the sounds of the electro house in October 2019 for the release of the single Aftermath .

2020: Astronomia as the Dancing Pallbearers soundtrack

On March 27, 2020, the duo released the single I Feel Human , the vocals of which were contributed by the American singer BullySongs.

Between March 2020 and April 2020, her version of the song Astronomia by Tony Igy , released in 2014, became known worldwide through the popular meme of the Dancing Pallbearers . Videos of the dancing pallbearers from Ghana were accompanied by the song and appeared on YouTube and TikTok . The videos gained notoriety during the COVID-19 pandemic . As a result of the hype, they reached the official single charts in April 2020 in, among others, Germany and Switzerland.
