Tony Igy (born June 6, 1985 in Kamensk-Schachtinski , Russia as Anton Igumnov ) is a Russian music producer in the field of EDM . In 2010 he first gained fame with the instrumental piece Astronomia . A remix version created in 2014 by the Dutch DJ duo Vicetone was able to land commercial success as a result of its use in the so-called Dancing-Pallbearers - memes .

Life

Anton Igumnov grew up in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. He came into contact with electronic music for the first time at a young age. He composed his first song in secondary school on a simple children's keyboard. Musically he was influenced by The Prodigy at that time . However, he never intended a career in music and so he never learned an instrument.

In 2006 his track Pentagramma appeared , which made him known locally. In March 2010 Igy released the EP This Is My Gift And This My Curse . One of the tracks contained the title Astronomia and was also offered as a free download. It was played on Russian radio and quickly grew in popularity. Dutch DJ and producer Tiësto played the song on some of his live performances in 2010, after which the song was shared on the Internet under the title Welcome to Ibiza . A YouTube publication under his name had over 15 million viewers. In September of the following year, the Australian rapper Iggy Azalea released the song My World , the instrumental of which is based on Astronomia . Igy was not named as a composer.

On August 30, 2013 he released the studio album Get Up . Astronomia was first released as an official single on October 22, 2013 . The Russian dance label "Freestyle Records" acted as the record label. On July 10, 2014, the Dutch EDM duo Vicetone released a revised version of the song as a free download under the title Astronomia 2014 . Within a very short time, the remix was able to achieve several million clicks on platforms like YouTube or SoundCloud. After the Danish record label "disco: wax" signed Astronomia , the original version from 2010 was released on September 2, 2016 for the first time worldwide as a single. The version by Vicetone followed on September 16, 2016. At the same time, the single Don't Turn Around was released , for which he collaborated with the Russian musician Syntheticsax. Furthermore, the solo single Nelly and the song Day in Day Out , which was created together with X-Chrome, were released.

After a number of songs were released as free tracks on various music platforms in previous years, Igy released a total of 17 songs as single through self-distribution between June 2017 and July 2017. On July 15, 2017, the EP It's Beautiful… It's Enough was also released . In 2018, in collaboration with the Italian DJ and producer Gio Nailati, a vocal version of Astronomia was released , entitled Take Me Away and featuring vocals by the singer Hoshie Soul. On November 15, 2019, Igy released the studio album You Know My Name , also through self-distribution.

In 2020, Astronomia became known worldwide through the popular meme of the Dancing Pallbearers . Videos of the dancing pallbearers from Ghana were accompanied by the song and appeared on YouTube and TikTok . The videos gained notoriety during the COVID-19 pandemic . Due to the predominant use of the Vicetone version, it reached the charts in Germany and Switzerland in the course of Videos 2020.
