The song was written by Pete Bellotte , Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey and co-produced by Giorgio Moroder with Bellotte. After Bad Girls moved from number 5 to number 3 on June 30, 1979 and Hot Stuff fell from 1 to 2 at the same time, she became the first woman to have two singles in the top 3 of the Billboard 200 at the same time. For the piece, Summer received the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance . It achieved platinum status in the US. The song was ranked number 67 on Billboard's Greatest Songs of All Time .
Cover versions
The piece was often covered, for example by the Pussycat Dolls on the album PCD or in 1988 by the German group Boys From Brazil . It was also played in the 1997 film The Full Monty .
