Itō Shizuo
Itō Shizuo ( Japanese 伊 東 静 雄 ; * December 10, 1906 in Nagasaki ; † March 12, 1953 ) was a Japanese poet.
Itō studied at the University of Kyoto and then lived as a teacher in Osaka. Impressed by the poetry of Friedrich Hölderlin and Rainer Maria Rilke , he published the volume of poetry Wagahito ni ataeru aika in 1935 , with which he became known as a poet. Hagiwara Sakutarō praised the author as the "last poet of Japan". In addition to Miyoshi Tatsuji , Nakahara Chūya and Tachihara Michizō , he was the author of the literary magazine Shiki . Up until his untimely death he published three further volumes of poetry, and a collection of his poems appeared posthumously. His hometown Nagasaki awards the Itō Shizuo Prize in his honor .
