Dr Phunk (civil: Jordy Buijs; born November 4, 1989 ) is a Dutch hardstyle DJ and music producer from Oud Gastel near Breda . He gained international fame in 2016 through his participation in the Dutch hit single Kind van de Duivel and several collaborations and remixes with and for Hardwell . He is currently under contract with their label Revealed Recordings and Dirty Workz .
Career
Beginnings in hard style
When he was 16, Dr Phunk began attending hardstyle parties, which sparked his interest in the scene and music production. After he had acquired the relevant knowledge himself , his first track was signed, which was still a demo version of FL Studio . This was followed by more than 70 releases on various labels, including Dirty Workz ( Coone ) and Hard With Style ( Headhunterz ). In the years from 2011 he played at almost all major hardstyle festivals in Europe including Defqon , Decibel and 4 × Tomorrowland . His first studio album Phunked Up was released in 2016.
Working with Hardwell & Publications at Revealed
In summer 2016 he finally met Hardwell at a festival in his hometown Breda. He told him that he needed a “good, more up-to-date hardstyle version” of his hit song Apollo in order to be able to conclude his shows. The premiere of this remix took place at Ultra Europe 2016 in Croatia. Due to the great positive feedback, Dr Phunk remixed another Hardwell song "just for fun". Hardwell liked this remix of Run Wild so much that he closed his last I Am Hardwell - United-We-Are Show on August 27, 2016 at the Hockenheimring with it. Together with another remix of Hardwell's Nothing Can Hold Us Down , all 3 productions were released on December 9th, 2016 in a remix EP on Hardwell's label Revealed Recordings . A fourth remix followed a little later, this time for Young Again, which premiered at the 300th anniversary edition of Hardwell's podcast Hardwell On Air . There are also three other Hardwell remixes by Dr Phunk for Creatures of the Night , Echo and Power . These are not published and are only played on his live shows. The first collaboration between the two, Here Once Again , was played for the first time by Hardwell at the Ultra Music Festival Miami in March 2017 and was released on August 25, 2017 on the Hardwell & Friends EP Vol. 2 . Shortly thereafter, his first solo production was released on Revealed , which is called Safe House . The second collaboration with Hardwell Take Us Down (Feeding Our Hunger) was released in January 2018 as part of the Hardwell & Friends EP Vol. 3 . In addition, Dr Phunk played on the Revealed Stage of Ultra Europe, was an interview guest at the Hardwell On Air anniversary editions 300 & 350, provided a mix for Revealed Radio (# 134) and played together with Hardwell u. a. at the Revealed Label Night 2017 as part of the Amsterdam Dance Event and on December 23, 2017 in the Cologne boathouse .
Commercial success in the Netherlands
In addition to his activity at Revealed, Dr Phunk worked on the song Kind van de Duivel by Jebroer and Paul Elstak . Because of the controversial lyrics and music videos, the Reformation Church called on parents in a warning letter to protect children from this song. In spite of this or precisely because of the following media echo and with the support of well-known DJs, views in the double-digit millions were achieved on YouTube and Spotify. In addition, it reached the charts in the Dutch-speaking area and was awarded three times platinum. Due to the feedback from Germany, the German version Kind einer Teufel was published by Kontor .
With Engeltje , the trio released a follow-up single in June 2017, also under ROQ 'N ROLLA Music . The video for it reached 1,000,000 views on YouTube in record time, also hit the charts and was awarded platinum.
A third single, this time with only Jebroer, was released in January 2018 with the title Leven Na De Dood .
2018 - return to Dirty Workz
After several releases under Dirty Workz in 2012, Dr Phunk signed back to Coone's label in June 2018 to give his heavier sound a platform. The songs El Dia De Los Muertos and Skrrr followed . His productions with a melodic focus will continue to be published under Revealed (remix for Kaaze - End Of The World & Drop with Lowriderz). Another song called Forever Young was presented by Hardwell on the Tomorrowland Mainstage.
Dr Phunk had his biggest DJ appearance so far at the Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2018. This was followed by other appearances at the international festivals EDC Mexico, Ultra Europe, Defqon, Amsterdam Dance Event and Electric Love .
In September 2018, German versions of his three chart successes were created. The songs Engel (original: Engeltje ) and Leben Nach Dem Tod (original: Leven Na De Dood ) were published by Jebroer in the EP Radikal . The German edition Kind eines Teufels (original: Kind van de Duivel ), which was published in 2017, is also part of the EP published under Kontor.
In October Dr Phunk moved into his new studio designed by Jan Morel. He created the studios of Hardwell, W&W and Blasterjaxx , among others .
