They currently occupy 39th place on the DJ Mag Charts.

history

2007–2009: musical beginnings

Even before their career as a DJ duo, they were good friends and concentrated on their musical interests apart from each other. However, Flohr was much more active in the area of DJing and van Hilst with producing his own songs. In 2007 Flohr began to incorporate his colleague's songs into his live sets more and more often until they decided to continue this as a permanent duo. This resulted in the foundation of the "Bassjackers" project. In the following time they shared their skills and went through both the production of their songs and the performances as a duo.

In addition to their own songs, they also published a large number of remixes on several music platforms. The title Beat Cut can be described as the first single . Already here they received support through a remix from the also Dutch DJ and producer Sidney Samson . Enowapi followed on the record label "Secure Recordings" . A few more lesser known songs followed. The remix of Sidney Samson's song Lets Go , published in autumn 2009 in collaboration with Lady Bizzey, received a lot of positive feedback on the Internet and DJs like Fedde Le Grand also noticed the duo. His support made her name known to other great DJs and the first official remixes for well-known artists, including Martin Solveig , Quintino and Ian Carey . Furthermore, they received many reinterpretations of their songs from internationally known producers.

2010–2012: First successes & record deal

During 2010, DJ legend Tiësto expressed a keen interest in the Bassjackers and began working with them. This was followed by a podcast sequence with the duo and an offer to record them on his record label "Musical Freedom". She signed a recording deal and started making first productions. On April 25, 2011, the single Mush Mush was released on Beatport. In contrast to their earlier, less well-known singles, the track was a great success and quickly reached the top 10 of the Beatport charts, where it stayed for over two months. He was also played by DJs such as Hardwell , Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and the Swedish House Mafia in their sets. Only a few months later, a remix EP of the world hit Maximal Crazy by Tiësto was released, which also featured a mix of the Bassjackers, which dominated the success of the EP. A double single with the title Brougham / Contour together with the producer Apster could not follow in any way, because of the publication via Afrojacks "Wall Recordings" it was rather in the background.

In 2012, the duo played at numerous festivals and began touring the USA. One of the performances took place on March 24, 2012 at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. This is considered to be one of their first major concerts. They also accompanied Robbie Rivera on several sets. During their appearance at EDC-Vegas they played their track Mush Mush and their following single Hey , which is a collaboration with the Dutch DJ duo Showtek . However, the release was postponed and the publication of their Angger-Dimas collaboration came first. The song, entitled RIA , was released on March 19, 2012 on " Doorn Recordings ". Only a few months later they released on August 13, 2012 together with Yves V the song Bronx about Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's record label "Smash the House". In the middle of 2012, Bassjackers left Musical Freedom and signed a contract with the successful Dutch label Spinnin 'Records . At the same time, the duo made the song Let's Get Weird available for free download. From December 11, 2012, the Showtek collab Hey was finally available. The official music video appeared shortly beforehand and was viewed several million times within a very short time.

Also in autumn 2012 the duo started the podcast series Jackin Da Bass . This replaced the predecessor FunX Dance and made its debut on October 20, 2012. These are one-hour DJ mixes, consisting of the current favorites of the Bassjackers, their own songs and mash-ups. The episodes appear every Saturday and are usually viewed several thousand times.

2013–2014: breakthrough with u. a. Crackin '

Flohr and van Hilst started 2013 with a two-hour set at the New Year party at Dada Land in New York. There they played collaborations with Ferry Corsten and Kenneth G. They also performed numerous remixes, including for The Wanted and Chuckie . Her collaboration with DJ and producer Dyro made her first release that year. The release was February 18, 2013 under the title Grid . This was followed by the track Duckface , a collaboration with Kenneth G. The song based on the Duckface selfie trend was released in March 2013 via " Hysteria ", but could not follow the success of the previous singles. However, the successor single Collision in particular caused positive feedback. The electro-house track was created together with the Dutch producer Ferry Corsten . The song was originally released in March 2013 on SoundCloud, among others. Official release in other music portals followed a month later. For many, the quality of the Bassjackers songs is said to have improved significantly, especially with this single.

Together with the DJ and producer R3hab , they released the track Raise Those Hands on July 15, 2013 on Calvin Harris ' own record label "Fly Eye Records". The Tacks became a huge success and put the Bassjackers on a completely new track. They said goodbye to their otherwise very tech-house style and started producing electro-house and big-room . Raise Those Hands played the duo for the first time together with R3hab at EDC-Vegas. The performance can also be seen in the official music video, which, although it did not appear on "Spinnin '", was viewed several million times. This was followed by her first appearance at the world's largest EDM festival Tomorrowland in Belgium on July 26, 2013 . The title Flag , a collaboration with Gregori , appeared next . The single Zing , which was released on September 23, 2013, received much more attention . One of the special features of this track is that it contains a big room drop, but after the main part it overflows in a part that has the old Bassjackers style.

In autumn 2013 they started studio work with Martin Garrix , who just got his breakthrough this year with the world hit Animals . The song Gamer , their first collaboration , was released on November 4, 2013 via "Spinnin 'Records" . On January 20, 2014, the next collaboration with the title Crackin 'followed . The song became her most successful track to date. It contains features from the Bassjackers single Zing as well as Martin Garrix's Animals and Wizard . Crackin ' appeared in two variations, one in a Bassjackers version and in a Martin Garrix version. The Bassjackers version was made available for free download, while Garrix's version, as the actual single version, occupied second place on the Beatport charts for a long time and thus represents the duo's first top position. They also managed to enter the Dutch single charts. The official music video received over 10 million views on Spinnin 'TV.

2014–2015: Genre change & collaborations with great DJs

The Track Battle was released on February 10, 2014 in collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Jordy Dazz on “Doorn Recordings”. A collaboration with the successful producer MakJ appeared as the follow-up single. The track is titled Derp and is slightly different in style from the previous tracks. In addition to the typical big room kick, they also set features of the dirty house. The song was released on April 28, 2014 via "Hysteria". Hardwell's record label "Revealed Recordings" released the song Rampage on August 15, 2014 , another collaboration with Kenneth G. The song was a success and has a clear dirty house style. The track was crucial for the further development of their style and received almost exclusively positive feedback. On July 27th, 2014, they performed on the Smash-the-House-Stage for the second time at Tomorrowland in Belgium. With Like That they released the even more successful follow-up single on "Smash the House". The drop is very similar to that of Rampage but deviates even more in the area of the Dirty Dutch.

On October 17, 2014, Bassjackers released another solo single called Savior , which was also praised by fans and achieved a high Beatport ranking. As a record label, after several releases through other record companies, it turned out to be "Spinnin '" again, which is why the title received significantly more promotion. With the single X , which was produced together with Dyro and was released on December 15, 2014, they took the opportunity to use their original style of music thanks to the support of a rather lesser known record label, called "Wolv". Nevertheless, Savior received strong support from Martin Garrix, Hardwell and W&W, among others . With Wave Your Hands followed when her first track in 2015 a collaboration with Thomas Newson. Due to the release on "Smash the House" the track was already used in their sets by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The performers were not named at this point. Although style was immediately assigned to the Bassjackers, Niles Hollowell-Dhar alias KSHMR was assumed to be a collaboration partner . Also Wave Your Hands was described as a strong Big Room track and became her first number-one hit on Beatport.

On February 20, 2015 Afrojack played the song What We Live For for the first time at the Ultra Music Festival Argentina , a collaboration between him and the Bassjackers. There was already positive criticism there and numerous recordings of the song appeared on the Internet. The collaboration, in particular, was called great because of the similar styles of music. The release date was April 13, 2015. On May 25, 2015, Showtek's record label "Skink Recordings" released the song Alamo , which was created in collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Brooks . The track was especially promoted by KSHMR and received almost exclusively positive feedback. The melody and the build-up of the lead have just been praised. The drop corresponds to the Dirty Dutsch style of the Bassjackers. At the same time, the Bassjackers celebrated great success with their remix of Higher Place , the Belgian DJ brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike together with Ne-Yo , as this proved to be very festival-friendly and thanks to a Shazam cooperation on the part of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike was offered for free download.

Furthermore, a track from the fifth episode of the “Welcome to KSHMR” podcast by KSHMR on YouTube garnered numerous clicks. At first it was assumed that it was his long-announced Vicetone collab, but this turned out to be a mistake and the track turned out to be a collaboration with the Bassjackers. The vocals were assigned to the American singer Sirah , who is known for the world success Bangarang together with Skrillex . The big room drop, however, has been heavily compared to the songs Mammoth and Waves by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and W&W, respectively. From July 2015 onwards, a promotional campaign ran for the track entitled Memories, which was published on August 31, 2015 .

On August 24th, 2015 the Italian producer Angemi uploaded a video on Facebook in which Martin Garrix 's hit Dragon was produced by Angemi himself in the style of other musicians. Among them was the so-called "Bassjackers" version. The basic melody of the song was retained, but stylistic devices based on earlier Bassjackers productions were fundamentally changed. The drop that made this version the most popular of the video stood out, which is why Angemi released the full version for download. On October 10, 2015, Hardwell premiered the production Bring That Beat , which is based on their typical style, in his " Hardwell-On-Air " podcast . However, for the first time they used a new built-up of the drop, which made the track appear more individual.

In addition, the song Sound Barrier was released at the end of 2015 . This was a collaboration with DJ and producer Coone . The special thing about the track is that it is based on a hardstyle basis. With the song Rough , which they produced together with Reez, Musical Freedom released their first number in the field of bass house in December 2016, which also contained elements of future house.

2016-2017: Destiny EP

Bassjackers (2017)

In the spring of 2016, an alleged collaboration with FTampa spread across several music platforms. However, this turned out to be a collaboration with Joe Ghost & MOTi . Spinnin 'ended up with the track titled On the Floor . In the area of progressive house, the song Marco Polo followed , which was done together with Breathe Carolina and again with Reez .

A cover version of DJ Yoeri's techno song Fuck on Cocain was also released . They produced these together with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and released the whole thing on their record label "Smash the House". At the same time, the duo announced they would be working with Jay Hardway . This was first followed by the big room track El Mariachi , which appeared on Spinnin 'on June 20, 2016 and moved directly into the top 10 of the Beatport Top 100. Especially Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike supported the track. The second collaboration contains the title Dinosaur and, in contrast to its predecessor, corresponds much more to the style of the future house, and could not follow on from its success.

In mid-September 2016, the Bassjackers released the Destiny EP . This was made available for free download via Spinnin 'and is based on a mixture of Trap, Lovetrap and Future Bass . They continued the latter in their subsequent single Extreme , their second collaboration with KSHMR . This is called Extreme and was sung by Sidnie Tipton. The song was previously traded as a Chainsmokers production.

2017: Les Pays Bass

On January 31, 2017, her second collaboration with Breathe Carolina appeared after Marco Polo . This is entitled Can't Take It , which was sung by the American singer Cade. In March 2017 the song Joyride was released , which was produced together with Brooks. While their first collaboration Alamo was a mixture of dirty Dutch and big room, Joyride could be classified more in the field of future bounce. At the same time, the song All Aboard was released , which was recorded together with the Belgian DJ duo D'Angelo & Francis alias Rockstarz. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike also took part in the big room track.

On June 16, 2017, the duo released the song These Heights . The Future House song was created in collaboration with the Dutch DJ duo Lucas & Steve. With the single Wobble & Jiggle , the duo released a mixture of trap and big room in July 2017. The track is an announcement of their EP Les Pays Bass . This was released on August 25, 2018 and featured three trap and one bass house productions. One of these is a remix of their KSHMR collaboration Memories from 2015.

On December 1st, 2017 the song The Fever was released , another collaboration with the guys from Breathe Carolina and the DJ and producer Apek. The song Ready followed a week later , with which they revived their musical style from 2013 and 2014. The track is a remake of the song of the same name by L3n from 2015, which L3n sent as a demo to the two Dutchmen.

2018: Les Pays Bass Vol. 2

Flohr live at Airbeat One 2019

On January 19, 2018, Bassjackers released the track Last Fight , which was created together with the Dutch electro and trap duo Crossnaders. The combination of big room and trap was called "Smash the House". The track Are You Randy was released on February 16, 2018 via Tiësto's "Musical Freedom" and was recorded together with Bali Bandits. The Future House track moved up to 52nd place in the Beatport Top 100.

The song The Riddle was released on April 13, 2018 . The melody of the break is based on the song of the same name by Nik Kershaw from 1985. The song had around nine million clicks on Spotify by the end of the year. On June 15, 2018, the track Switch followed in a similar style , which they produced together with the Dutch DJ and producer duo Blasterjaxx . The track has been supported by Hardwell and Tiësto, among others, since spring 2018.

In July 2018, Armin van Buuren released the remix package of his late summer hit Blah Blah Blah , to which Bassjackers contributed a big-room version. This developed into a festival success and was often clicked on various music portals. Something similar happened to a remix of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mikes and Wiz Khalifa's commercial hit When I Grow Up . This was released together with the collaboration The Jungle as part of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's Tomorrowland EP .

On September 3, 2018, Bassjackers released the track Blocks , which they recorded together with the Italian music trio Sunstars. Behind the song is a bass house production. On October 5th, 2018, the song Bounce followed , which was created in collaboration with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. This has been played live since the beginning of the previous year. Since the beginning of 2018, a version with the US rapper Snoop Dogg and the US producer Julian Banks has been played.

The EP Les Pays Bass Vol. 2 was released on October 8, 2018 . This includes collaborations with Pep & Rash and Ralvero, among others in bass house and big room style. In November 2018, the single Zero Fs Given followed , a mixture of big room and hip-hop that was created together with Wolfpack.

On October 17th, 2015 they managed to place themselves in the DJ-Mag- Top-100 of the best DJs for the first time. The duo started in 39th place. In the following year they moved up to 34th place.
