A Town Called Paradise is the fifth studio album of the Dutch House - DJ Tiësto . It was released on June 16, 2014, but two songs were previously released as a single. The song Red Lights was released in the spring and the track Wasted in the summer . The song Let's Go was also made available for sale digitally.
background
Tiesto announced at the end of 2013 that he was working on a new studio album, on January 25, 2014 the release date and tracklist were announced. The name of the album is a reference to the city of Las Vegas, where he works as a resident DJ in the clubs Hakkasan and Wet Republic . He has often said that this city has something very special for him and that he is inspired a lot by it, so he describes it as "The city that is also called Paradise ".
promotion
He has already played songs from the album on previous live performances. The songs Red Lights , Footprints and Let's Go in particular were often discussed on the Internet, as recordings of various performances, including at the Ultra Music Festival 2013, were distributed on the World Wide Web. This was also the reason why the song Footprints was traded as the first or second single for a long time. This intensified when the studio version was illegally uploaded online in February 2014. Tiesto also played a collaboration with Hardwell on one of his appearances. Unlike most house DJs, he announced that he won't be playing a large part of the track list on his club tour until the album is released. In the middle of May 2014 a website called www.atowncalledparadise.com was created on which you have to explore the city of Las Vegas via Google Street View to discover the official album cover. One is being navigated through the Nevada desert in the direction of a red dot shown on the radar . The closer you get to the goal, the louder the music of three tracks by Tiesto becomes. There are three levels. The goal of the first level is the single cover of the song Wasted . The second goal is the cover of the single Red Lights . The last thing to do is find the official album cover.
Collaborations
There is no solo track on this album. He worked with various singers and other house DJs on all of the songs. However, the guest musician Michel Zitron, known as John Martin's studio partner , was not given for the first title , a reason for this was not given. Vocal contributions were also made by Matthew Koma , the Swedish dance-pop duo Icona Pop, as well as the dubstep trio Krewella , consisting of DJ Kris Tindl and the two singers Yasmine and Jahan Yousaf, and the musician Andreas Moe, who is known for Avicii's Fade Into Darkness . Collaborations with other DJs and dance projects also appear on the album. These include collaborations with Hardwell , Dzeko & Torres , Firebeatz and Sultan & Ned Shepard. Nothing has been said about songwriters who contributed to the record. It should be noted that the songs Shimmer with Christian Burns and The Feeling with Ou Est Le Swimming Pool already existed. It is just a new recording.
reception
Initially high expectations were placed on the album, but these disappeared when the first two singles Red Lights and Wasted were released. It was criticized that the style goes strongly into the commercial area of dance music and does not stand out from the crowd. Ultimately, the album turned out to be versatile. In addition to the dance-pop tracks, there were also electro and progressive house beats.
Singles
Red lights
Red Lights was released as the first single on the album. The song was released in stores on February 21, 2014 and was sung by Swedish producer and singer Michel Zitro. The official music video premiered on February 10, 2014. It was shot by Skinny. The music video initially shows a young, blonde woman. She is bored in her everyday life, where she only does her job in a restaurant. One day two men on their motorbikes stop at the restaurant. One had another young, brown-haired woman sitting behind him. You enter the cafe. During the operation, the brunette whispers in the blond's ear that she got on the motorcycle to escape everyday life. She decides to do the same and also gets on the motorcycle behind the second man. After a while they take a break and move on in twos. Your goal is to get there in time for the Tiesto concert that is taking place in Las Vegas, which is a reference to the title of the studio album. They hitchhike to the city and meet Tiesto personally. He looks after the two with a grin and now plays his concert. The video has been viewed 15 million times to date. The single also sold well and has already reached the charts in more than 10 countries. Including top 10 placements in Australia and Norway. The song reached number one in Scotland. Tiesto was awarded numerous records for the track.
Wasted
Wasted was released as the second single. It was first published in selected countries on April 22, 2014. The piece was recorded together with the American singer Matthew Koma . The video premiere took place on April 25th parallel to the announcement of his new album. The music video begins with a young woman preparing her birthday party. She stands in front of a table full of sweets and compares it to a picture in a kind of cookbook. She pushes the one or the other dish until the doorbell rings. When the blonde woman opens the door, her friends are standing there with a birthday cake in hand. She invites them in and they celebrate together. The young women go swimming in the pool, play cheerleaders and have pillow fights. It should be noted that they often make appropriate mouth movements to the song. Later they sit on a sofa with popcorn and turn on the television. The "Tiesto Show" is just starting there. He announces his new single and Koma comes to the TV studio. There he begins to sing the track. In his hand he holds a microphone that is actually known from the field of rock'n'roll, the genre of which he also represents on his solo career. Afterwards the blonde woman says goodbye to her friends and closes the door completely out of breath. After just one week, the video was viewed over a million times and entered the upper half of the Dutch and Swedish singles charts. In Germany, too, the song was able to reach the charts before the official single release thanks to heavy downloads.
